Product Description The Logitech Harmony 1000 features a brilliant 3.5-inch color touch screen that allows for one-touch activity-based control of even the most sophisticated A/V components. Say goodbye to the inconvenience of multiple remotes controlling multiple devices; Logitech's patented Smart State Technology makes it easy to control your HDTV, adjust aspect ratios, or change sound modes?there are no complicated macros to program. Just press an on-screen activity icon and Harmony does the rest. One remote is all you'll need to control even the most complex home entertainment systems. And when used together with a Harmony RF Wireless Extender (sold separately), you can further reduce clutter by placing your components out of sight. Since the remote can transmit both infrared and radio frequency commands, you can control equipment inside a cabinet or even in the next room. Package Contents - Logitech Harmony 1000 remote control / Charging station / USB cable /AC Adapter / Lithium-ion battery / Installation CD / Installation guide / 1-year warranty

BEST Universal Remote EVER!! May 6, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I kept debating on purchasing the Logitech Harmony 1000 remote for months now. I read review after review, went to the store and looked at it a thousand different times, then recently broke down and ordered it from Amazon.com because of the special price. I do NOT regret making this purchase. This remote is user friendly in so many ways. With the USB cable, programming is easier than ever before. It works better with my LCD's, cable boxes, DVD players, and surround sound systems better than the remotes that they came with. One of the best functions of this remote is the fact that you can program it to turn on everything you own with the touch of one button. It's so much better than powering on one component at a time, especially when you have 4 or 5 components to turn on. The range on it is incredible. It's a little bulky at first, but I got used to it really quick. Not only that, you learn to overlook the size of it when you discover how well it works and all of its features. The matte LCD screen is really easy to clean. I can't think of any cons with this remote. My Significant other is not technology oriented at all and she can even use this remote with ease. I'll be buying another one when this one wears out, or an upgrade if they come out with it! Thanks Amazon!!!
Poor quality - gave up and returned May 4, 2008 Given my good experience with the Harmony 890 and RF module, I decided to simplify my in-laws remote experience as they often forget how and when to use all the various remotes for their TV, DVD, and VHS machine.
The setup went pretty quickly as I'd done it before on the 890. Set it up, tested, trained them, and then left. Later that day, get a call - can't turn off the TV. Go over and sure enough, doesn't work. RF icon doesn't come on. After some fiddling, finally remove the battery and reboot the 1000. This fixed the problem. Next day, stops working again. Another battery removal and reboot solves the problem. Next day fails again. This time I return it for replacement.
Get the replacement, set it up and all is well for two days before the RF transmitter stops working again. Remove battery and reboot - starts working. Next day, stops again. That was enough - returned for refund.
There is either a design or mfg problem here.
Good option with the RF extender April 26, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This remote was a overall a great addition to my entertainment system. The software provided did recognize all my 12 devices including my Apple TV. It did require a little head scratching before I got everything setup correctly but after calling the Logitech support to resolved my last issue I finally was able to enjoy an amazing experience where I could control all my devices from a single remote with very simple and user friendly commands.
I do not recommend buying this remote without the remote extender. I did order both at the same time but receive the remote first and decided to set it up anyway. Even with the steadiest hand, most of the tasks I was trying to execute were failing.
On the plus side: - The remote is slick and works great when finally setup. - The tech support is very good. One of the best tech support I had to deal with. - All my devices including brand new models were in the Logitech database.
On the negative side: - The software provided is not that great and the automatic setup had some problems. I had to manually edit some of the configurations which is not a fun experience. I had to call the Logitech support to solve a remaining issue. - It is difficult to find some Icons for the favorite channels that are of the correct size. All resources online since to be for the Logitech 880 or other remotes. - The touch screen is ok but definitively not as smooth as the touch screen of the IPod touch or the Iphone. - It takes a while to upload the configuration to your remote and you will have to update both the RF extender and the remote each time so it is better to configure everything with the remote only first and then add the remote extender.
Harmony 1000 April 25, 2008 Originaly I got a unit that did not work. Logitech replaced it and it does work now. I am using a Mac and use it with Apple TV and a Vizio 42 inch TV. I have only set it up for 3 activities VCR, TV, and Apple TV. I no longer use a DVD player and everything is stored on 6 Firewire and 4 internal drives. The ancient VCR is for viewing relics from time to time.
Overall the works well for Apple TV. It has not crashed or stuck in over a month and all is well. I would like to reprogram a few buttons to make is smoother for the Apple TV, but it does well.
For TV it turns on cable box, tv, and Component 2 input. For Apple TV, it turns on TV HDMI1, and wakes the apple tv. The Ok button functions as the menu button, and the play stop on the LCD screen function as the original apple remote keys.
I think my wife can now watch TV which was a problem before. It is much easier than usint the Vizio remote which has small buttons which can not be viewed in dim light even though they are illuminated.
remote April 18, 2008 I got this remote even after many reviews saying it is hard to program. I'm not sure what they are trying to control, but I had no problems at all. I love it.
