Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The TERK TV Volume Regulator (VR-1) delivers a consistent, quality audio level while channel surfing or changing between A/V sources, without adjusting the volume. The VR-1 features Advanced Digital Signal Processing technology that automatically adjusts sound levels without introducing additional noises. In the VR-1, Noise Reduction technology automatically reduces any 'hiss' already present in audio. This clarifies whispers and articulates quiet scenes to a level that you can enjoy. Its Dual-Band Automatic Gain Control adjusts bass and treble signals separately for improved dialog. With response as quick as .002 seconds, the VR-1 delivers consistent audio levels when sudden loud noises such as explosions are present. The VR-1 is easy-to-install and is compatible with any A/V device (using RCA-type connectors). Its compact design allows for out-of-sight installation.Consumers adjust the volume as much as twenty five times an hour. TERK's TV Volume Regulator allows you to focus on the entertainment and not the volume control. Once installed, you can set the VR-1 to your desired level and enjoy quality audio. The VR-1 automatically matches the volume of commercials to the program level, eliminating those sudden, loud noises that disturb the household or neighbors. By making dialog more intelligible and reducing blaring music or sound effects, the VR-1 is a great solution for the home theater enthusiast.

4 out of 5 stars Terk VR1   June 18, 2008
Over all we are very satisfied with the product. It does what it is designed to do. There is still some volume variation but nothing like before. I can listen to my MP3's now at a reasonably steady level. Because they are taken from different albums there was a volume issue before, one loud another soft.

This product does not have the optical cable hookup, it only comes with RCA style connections.

5 out of 5 stars Terk VR1 Automatic TV Volume Controller   May 28, 2008
This works great for normalizing the volume. I've been using for for over 2 weeks and it's a pleasure not to have to keep reaching for the remote to mute the volume on those BLASTING LOUD commercials.

The only time it don't work too well is when they process the sound by concentrating all the energy in to the mid range and reducing the low and high frequencies. The limiter sees this as normal audio because the overall
audio signal is the same just concentrated in to the mid range making the
mid range louder but the highs and lows are lower so the over all signal is the same. kind of like squeezing a balloon, if you squeeze a balloon in your hand it compresses where you squeeze it and expands out in the other direction, same amount of air in it but it looks bigger, that's what they do with the sound. you would need a very big expensive audio processor to correct this. but it does help even with this.

Over all I'm very satisfied with this Volume Controller it does what it claims to do and does it good. I now reach for the remote maybe 2-3 times a day instead of every commercial break.

No more low shows and commercials that seem 10 times louder then the show.
I highly recommend it.

4 out of 5 stars Does what it says   May 22, 2008
Well I have been using the Terk VR-1 now for about 4-5 years. It recently starting adding a lot of electronic noise (buzzing, clicking, etc.)to the audio signal so I had to remove it and go without this volume regulator. OMG, I had blissfully forgotten how %$@$^&#@!* horrible it is to watch TV without this unit!!! I am ordering another one immediately. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that if the power goes out (which happens constantly for some reason around here) you have to unplug the unit and plug it back in to get any audio. I have wasted a few hours over the years trying to figure out what the hell had gone wrong with my audio only to 'remember' eventually that solution. lol Seems like there could be some sort of automatic reset in the circuitry somewhere.

5 out of 5 stars enhance your tv viewing   May 20, 2008
I purchased one of these because my wife kept yelling at me to turn the volume down whenever a commercial came on. Then when the program came back on I had to turn it up again. Now if I can just find a way to fix those other 1000 things she yells at me about...

I've had it for a couple of years and it is an excellent device...just plug it in and it works, you must have audio jacks on the TV.

This one I purchased for my neighbor because he had the same problem with his wife.

The product was purchased for a neighbor who had seen my product.

The end user is well satisfied with it.
