Not bad but not great August 17, 2008 The fabric is pretty thick and tough and seemingly water proof. We took it on a six hour drive in light rain with no water or dampness on the inside. The biggest problem was the zipper. It can be very difficult to close especially in temperatures below 50 degrees. In cold temperatures it becomes VERY stiff. Attaching it to the vehicle requires some "jimmying". It requires two attachment points PER side on all 4 sides so if you have car top rails on 2 sides (front/back or side/side) you may need to get creative. Look to see if you have any holes in the rails to attach clips for the sides that may be "missing" rails.
Dry as a bone!! August 16, 2008 I was a little reluctant to buy this carrier because there were reviews that it wasn't as water resistant as described. Well let me reassure everyone that this carrier is WATER TIGHT!!!! We came home from our vacation in a horrible rain storm . We were travelling for 6 hours in the pouring rain on major highways and when we got home EVERYTHING inside this carrier was BONE DRY!!!! Maybe the other people didn't follow the direction on having the zipper side to the back and that's why things got wet because we did not have one drop of water inside this carrier. The only thing that I would have liked this carrier to be was a little bit bigger. But dosen't everyone want BIGGER!
Rain-X Roof Top Carrier August 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We purchased this roof carrier to replace one of the large, hard plastic clamshell carriers we had used for years. With our kids getting older and moving away, we didn't need the large carrier any more and could use the space it took up in our garage. We used the Rain-X carrier for the first time this past weekend -- our annual camping trip in the Adirondacks. It holds a good amount of soft goods (like sleeping bags and clothes bags) and kept everything dry, even during a torrential rain storm. The material is very stiff, which made loading a little more difficult than we anticipated. Also, the only opening is in the rear and if you can't easily get to it from the rear of the car, it's a good idea not to tie it down right away so the opening can be shifted to one side of the car for easier loading. After loading up the bag, we shifted it back into place and secured it down. It did not move -- even at highway speeds. It was just what we were looking for.
Rain X Roof Top Cargo July 29, 2008 This was great saved alot of room. This is just what we needed for our trip.
RAIN-X May 20, 2008 It held what it was suppose to hold, keeping it pretty water-tight. But some very serious false advertising. Does NOT use any RAIN-X product just uses the name. It says it is water proof on the package but the info inside says that it is only water resistant. I am glad it didn't rain to test it. The straps were okay. a pain to work with.
