A compact compass with unique bracket for easy detachment, ideal for kayaks, dinghies and other smaller sail boats. The durable vibration dampening housing and luminous card also make this device a favorite among powerboaters.Suunto offers a wide selection of smaller sized marine compasses for various applications ranging from small powerboats and dinghies to kayaks and canoes. The operational temperature range for these compasses is at least -30oC - +60oC (-21 oF - +140oF) and all are covered by a minimum 5-year Suunto warranty.

4 out of 5 stars Good for coastal navigation   June 6, 2008
The compass works great. Nautical compasses are always read in numerical degrees- anything else would be worthless when navigating using a chart. The fact that this compass is easily removed is also a nice feature. Would buy again.

I bought one and am sending it back. I was going to use this on a small powerboat and realized the compass marks only "E" and "W" and those are on top. Not easily visible unless the compass is mounted below your line of sight. Yeah, I know 0 degrees is north and 180 degrees is south but in this boat I'm not doing complex navigation and just want to quickly verify my direction. Silly setup for a small powerboat, even sillier for a kayak which, I gather, is their intended audience.

Nicely made though. And a slick mounting system.
