Forget Breaking Bonaduce or The Surreal Life. Ewan McGregor has made a celebrity reality series that's entertaining without having to be called a guilty pleasure. Long Way Round is a documentary detailing the 20,000-mile motorcycle trip he took around the world with best friend Charley Boorman over 115 days. Their trip took them from London through locales such as Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Siberia, and Canada, to name a few, before ending in New York. Armed with a cameraman, McGregor and Boorman encounter separation anxiety from their families; a shifty stranger (later revealed to be Mafia) who leads them through winding dark corridors to a posh hotel room; delays at international borders; hosts who offer them Fear Factor-level animal parts for dinner; injuries, equipment breakdowns, and more. The pair also film their own video diaries, in which they voice concerns and frustrations. The result is an emotional, rich breadth of experiences, from the hardship of logistical setbacks paired with the joy of visiting the children of Chernobyl and encountering hospitable locals who insist on escorting them wherever they go. McGregor and Boorman also make witty emcees, cheerfully upbeat even when they wonder aloud if one of their gun-happy hosts is a psycho murderer. The seven-episode series, originally aired on Bravo, concludes with their emotional ride into the Big Apple and some surprises for the pair courtesy of the show's producers. The two-disc DVD includes some can't miss deleted scenes, including McGregor's story about being confused for Jude Law, and a clip of McGregor attempting Jedi mind tricks on commuters who keep stopping in the road to peer at his broken-down bike ("These aren't the bikes you're looking for."). Long Way Round may have been an arduous once-in-a-lifetime experience, but you can't help but hope McGregor and Boorman suit up for another road trip someday. -- Ellen A. Kim.

Album Description
NTSC/Region 0. Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman begin a twenty thousand mile trip by motorcycle around the world, travelling through Europe, Mongolia and Canada. Seven one hour episodes. Long Way Round documents the adventures of film stars Ewan McGregor (Trainspotting, Moulin Rouge, Star Wars) and Charley Boorman on their 20,000 mile motor bike trip around the world. Departing from London on 14th April 2004 the pair travelled through Europe, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Siberia, Alaska, Canada arriving in the USA just over 3 months later. Along the way the intrepid pair encountered Kalashnikov-toting gangsters and extreme cuisine, survived numerous motorised scrapes often whilst traversing non existent roads days from the nearest hospital and found themselves alarmingly close to a hungry grizzly bear. They arrived at their final destination, New York, on 29th July and this DVD release tells the story from the eyes of the two film stars. EMI.

5 out of 5 stars Best show around!   October 3, 2008
How refreshing that these guys are actually doing something fun and educational and being really nice to the local people they visit as well.
I think the sequel is coming out soon and it is on the top of our family's xmas list!

Great series. Very good for world geography and travel enthusiasts as well as those who enjoy motor cycle adventures.

5 out of 5 stars Don't Want to Leave   September 12, 2008
Fun to watch these guys do something I wish I could do. We were on the front of our seats however for the Mongolia portion. We had gotten to visit there twice, and even knew the Yank that helped them out in a remote location. Ewan's words were the same as ours when exiting Mongolia: "I don't want to leave."

And you should not miss this documentary.

5 out of 5 stars Great DVD! This is the 10 Episode 3 DVD Extended Version   September 5, 2008

I ordered this on 8-26-08. After seeing the reviews here, I emailed Beaches Ent. who is one of the sellers asking if it was the 7 or 10 episode version. It is the 10 episode, 3 disk set with extras just like advertised and like the photo shows. I think some of the reviews here are old since this has been out for while. Anyways I saw the Long Way Down first and I think this is even better. It is exactly what I thought it would be, love it, worth the money. Now to start planning my motorcycle trip.

5 out of 5 stars Too short around   August 26, 2008
If your into Touring, whether Adventure or your touring never gets off the Tarmac, you will dig this show. Two down to earth actors, best friends, who love Motorcycles, and whenever possible, going places on them. This round the earth trip was a hellofva challenge and though I don't think it could be done without a support team such as they had, that does not take away from the tough ride they endured and succeeded in making.
Most of the video is dedicated to the tough and difficult parts of the journey. I would have liked to have seen more of the countries they passed through.
This kind of "Reality" video I'm all for. It makes you anxious for the next ride. I will watch it numerous times (when I'm not riding myself, that is) bob
