Product Description After touring constantly for 12 months, Darren Hayes is about to release a stunning live concert DVD of his most ambitious and critically acclaimed concert tour to date : The Time Machine Tour.
Quietly selling out London s prestigious Royal Albert Hall, Hayes audaciously toured a show that had more in common with Pink Floyd than American Idol.
The show, designed by legendary U2 and Rolling Stones designer Willie Williams featured, amongst other things, a 24 foot animatronic steel and neon origami bird and set pieces straight from a Jules Verne novel.
The DVD marks the completion of a project that has seen Hayes graduate from pop star to label head and CEO of his own independent record company.
A year before the likes of Radiohead decided to snub major label EMI, Hayes had announced plans to go it alone via his own label Powdered Sugar releasing his double album This Delicate Thing We ve Made with little fanfare. Just great songs, intricate art piece music videos and a blistering live band.
Accountants, managers and suits and ties advised him against spending so much of his own money on such a show. But Hayes famously ignored them and took the elaborate production all over the UK and Australia. The DVD was shot in his hometown of Brisbane Australia on the final night of the tour.
''This was the tour I've always dreamed of. Bowie and Peter Gabriel made the blueprint for this type of rock theatre and although it sounds morbid, doing a show like this was one of my before I die wishes. I simply had to do something like this once in my life and I couldn t think of a better moment than this period to try'', Hayes said.
Costume design stitched by makers from the Royal Shakespeare Company and set pieces by the folks who put U2 in a Lemon and George Michael in front of the largest video screen ever built the show was a spectacle that had to be seen to be believed.

Hype over nothing September 19, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am amazed at how this has been hyped up, when in actual fact, it's very bad, his worse yet. Despite the Savage Garden concert video being made years ago, it runs rings around this DVD. Darren is self-indulgent, boring, miserable, depressing and unhappy on this DVD. With an absent wedding ring and even turning his wedding song, So Beautiful, into a tragedy, you really have to ask yourself what on earth happened before the show.
I actually felt depressed watching it. Darren has changed, as an Artist, a Person, a Singer, even his looks have completely changed, and none of these changes are better. A shadow of his former self.
Couldn't possibly suggest anyone buying this, I have sold mine on eBay to whoever was foolish enough to buy it. So sad and disappointed.
Incredible September 13, 2008 Darren sounds pitch perfect in all the songs in this concert and he really knows how to put on a good performance. The lighting and stage design was done very well. I think the only way I could have enjoyed it more is if I actually got to be there. The people in the audience were incredibly lucky.
This is one purchase I will never regret. It's one of the best DVD concerts I own.
Gotta love Darren's vibrant energy! September 9, 2008 I saw this tour in a small club gig and it was nice to see the DVD of a much larger venue with stage theatrics and the big light show. Great audio, videography and editing! Similar to the Affirmation tour DVD with the large stage and Darren's vibrance & stage presence. Oh yeah..great voice and music too, of course!
Time Travel on a Neon Bird - What More Could You Ask For?! September 1, 2008 Darren Hayes just gets better and better! His ability to write personal, heartfelt music that can lift a crowd en masse, while simultaneously convincing the indivual listener that the song was written just for them - it's incredible!
The Time Machine Tour was Darren's dream, and he made it a reality - it's a miracle of human determination. Part Pop Concert, part theatrical production, this show causes me to catch my breath again and again. "Casey" alone is enough of a reason to buy this DVD. I was lucky enough to be there when the Neon Bird was brought out onto the stage - the thrill that went through me then returns again and again as I recall the moment I fully understood (at least from my own perspective) the extent of what Darren is trying to say on his beautiful album.
This is so much more than a Tour - it's a journey of healing: for Darren, yes, but also for anyone who chooses to board that Time Machine with him. The idea of returning to your past and making peace with it - not changing it, just accepting and moving on....I can't be the only one who thinks this is a work of genius. I can't begin to imagine the direction his next project will take - one thing's for sure though, it will be as innovative as both "Tension and the Spark" and "This Delicate Thing...." and wherever he goes, I will follow.
Bravo Darren!
