Huge Priest fan, pretty good album June 6, 2008 This live album is somewhat the antithesis of their seminal live album, 1979's "Unleashed in the East". That one was scaled down, fast, and raw. In fact, I think they hurt the songs by not giving them thick crunch and dialing back on the RPM. Rising does justice to classics like Ripper, Exciter, and Green Manalishi, which should be played mid-tempo (or slightly slower) to bring out their power. OTOH, I routinely skip Breaking the Law, Living After Midnight, etc., because they're live pop staples and ehh. In fact, it seems they've slowed all the songs down so that he doesn't have to sing as fast. As I said a moment ago, that's actually a good thing. One odd thing about Rob is that he actually looks better older. Ok, maybe not 55 old -- though he still has plenty of charisma -- but when he was younger he actually looked too "pretty boy" to pull of the metal thing. If you like old metal, you'll enjoy this album, even though Rob's voice is shot on it.
Good, but April 14, 2008 Good, but I did not enjoy editing (Still fast for my tasting) and the overall color schemes of show and the fact that there are absolutely no extras.
For the band itself, no complains: they play hard as always. I just think it's becoming somekind of cliche to record live shows at the Budokan.
Judas Priest is Still Here! February 15, 2008 I really enjoy this concert, and watching the band rock on with so many great songs. I love the 3 options of audio to your liking. Yes, everyone is getting older but they still Rock the House down. I have All of the Priest albums considering they are one of my all time favorite band. The stage is Huge and I feel they could've done a lot more to the stage and with props and stuff. I did like the Harley Davidson coming out of the smoke. I love watching the cute oriental girls head banging and rocking out with the songs, and damn, they are so adorable and cute. The crowd was having a great time and everyone was singing and waving their hands around, so that is always a great crowd to have. I love the several Heavy costumes that Rob Halford are wearing and the way he walks around the stage, he OWNS that stage. Great show
Awesome return of the Priest beast! January 28, 2008 This is metal the way it should be, hard and heavy with amazing vox from Halford himself. Hall hath frozen over and all for the better!
great old school Metal show. January 7, 2008 This show is really a good one. I bought the DVD used as a present to my self over the so called holidays and I have watched it many times. The music sounds great, with exeption of 'Another Thing Coming' Rob rushes through the lyrics to much and sings it kind of half hearted. I know it one of the "required" hits for their shows, but I happen to really like the song and its lyrics. The rest of the show is great. Performance on "Painkiller" is amazing, Rob saved whatever he had left in the tank for this one.He absolutely rips on it, its a lyrical display that I believe very few others could duplicate. Rob Halford has aged and not too gracefully, but he is still a hell of a lead vocalist, if not the physical specimen and energetic performer he once was.His creativety both vocally and lyrically is what makes Priest so unique and artistically superior to most other Metal acts. I will always be a Halford fan even if time has not been kind to him. K.K. and Glenn are awesome to. They have lost nothing over the years ,in fact they may have gotten better. The show may not have been the best of the tour,I can't say, but having it in Japan is a nice nostalgic touch, plus the Japanese are great Metal Fans. I enjoyed the shot of the middle age Japanese business man tearing up when the opening licks for "Breaking the Law" start up. You'd never see fan loyalty like that in some random US city. Good show and worth watching several times.
