Product Description
From the makers of Crash comes this electrifying thriller with an all-star cast. On the idyllic shores of the Cayman Islands Shy (Bloom) and Andrea (Saldana) share a secret her parents can never know they are in love. But a night of passion leads to their discovery and a devastating act of vengeance by Andrea's brother (Mackie). Meanwhile a shady American businessman (Paxton) has fled with his daughter to the Islands to avoid federal prosecution only to be drawn into a dangerous web of deceit. As lives intersect and truths are revealed a chain reaction of violence is set in motion that will determine whether love can survive the fall of paradise. Fans of Orlando Bloom will get a chance to see the youthful leading man venture into darker territory in this intriguing crime thriller set in the exotic Cayman Islands. Though Bloom is top-billed in Haven (and shares a producing credit), his role--as a lovestruck Briton who falls in love with a local girl (Zoe Saldana), much to her family's consternation--is less of a lead than part of a larger ensemble cast, some of which is involved in another loosely connected storyline about a businessman (Bill Paxton) who has arrived on the islands to escape an FBI investigation. The players (which include Agnes Bruckner as Paxton's daughter, Bobby Cannavale, and Stephen Dillane) handle the neo-noirish material well, and director Frank E. Flowers makes excellent use of the exotic locations, though a connection between the stories could have been more clearly struck beyond thematic implications of the corruption of natural beauty. The DVD offers full-screen and widescreen versions, as well as a making-of featurette. -- Paul Gaita

3 out of 5 stars Spoiled rich white kids and Cayman gangsta Rastas, oh my!   September 17, 2008
Well, if you can get through all the Rasta talk that really utilized the subtitles (thank goodness) and the usual drugged-up kids on Spring Break; you'll kinda' get the story line of the father on the run from the Feds, and everything else in between.

Sub-plots can get maddening after awhile, but they all come together at the end to make a pretty darn good movie. Orlando Bloom wasn't really the star. Just one of the many characters that lent themselves to the seemingly corrupt and somewhat care-free existence on the island.

Bill Paxton's little on-the-run from the Feds story tends to drag, but comes up roses in the end. As does his daughter, whom he forcibly takes from school, once the Feds raid his home in the U.S.

Orlando Bloom's little love story, which doesn't end on a high note, but nevertheless comes to a tragic conclusion, intertwines itself amongst the gangsta drug dealers lives.

The ending is really a payoff for the tedious individual stories throughout the film. If you can get past the numerous f*** and nig**r words used by visitor and gangster alike (especially the f*** word used liberally, to almost comic effect by the lawyer in the end), then the ending will be all worthwhile. Patience with the plots is the by-word for this film.

Great ending.

5 out of 5 stars expected more   June 24, 2008
well i cant complain too much, i saw orlando bloom in a middle-rate movie. he is just a great guy.
but i thought the movie to be better, at least i purchased it cheap.
only two stars not five as shown.

1 out of 5 stars Waste of the studio's money - don't waste yours   June 1, 2008
Wanna see a riveting film about white collar crime and ethnic tensions in the Cayman Islands? Well, keep looking, this isn't it. Spectacular local footage and some star power (Bill Paxton, Orlando Bloom) don't begin to compensate for the unappealing characters, rambling script, uneven pacing, embarrasingly over-the-top performances and not one, but two muddled and confusing plotlines, in this mess of a film by first time director Frank Flowers. Go back to film school, Frank, and work (hard) on your direction and editing. Or consider making travel films.

4 out of 5 stars Would have rated a 5   December 16, 2007
If there hadn't been so much unnecessary cursing. Otherwise, a compelling, gritty story with two subplots that merge at the end. If you want a happy ending, this is not your movie. If you want a believable story about love and hate, greed and betrayal, this is it.

4 out of 5 stars Good Movie   October 28, 2007
I just finish watching this movie (I bought it on Amazon a few days ago). I'm not understanding the bad reviews. I had never heard of it till I saw a preview for it some days ago and decided to buy it here. The only "flaw" I saw in this movie was that it tried to follow too many stories/characters. However, it wasn't so much so that it was in any way distracting.

I say it's worth seeing. =-)
