Product Description This documentary miniseries which first aired on the History Channel combines astronomy and history as it presents man's continual quest to explore the outermost reaches of the universe. Satisfyingly realistic computer reconstructions allow viewers to go inside our sun skirt the event horizon of a black hole and travel to the deepest reaches of space all while giving considered attention to the age-old question: are we alone in the universe or is there life on other planets?Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: DOCUMENTARIES/A&E UPC: 733961776058 Manufacturer No: AAAE77605

Wonderful, but would be better with subtitles ! August 5, 2008 Contrary to the description on the Amazon site, these 4 DVDs are not subtitled, even the number 1 disk.
That's my only regret as a French speaking customer.
But this personal inconvenience is balanced by the fact that the pictures are really wonderful.
I think it's one of the best documentary I have seen for a subject which is of deep interest for me.
Commentaries put the subject to the level that most people could understand these sometimes complex questions.
As for the language, even if there are no subtitles, it's not difficult to understand the narrator and the people interviewed with an average knowledge of English.
And the Beauty you see on your screen cancels all objections you may have.
I warmly recommend Amazon customers, even foreign ones like me, to buy this History Channel serie, which is difficult to find outside the US.
Should have been called "The Universe for Dummies" July 10, 2008 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
There are some interesting presentations in this series, and some stunning visuals. That's the only upside. The downside is, it was written assuming the audience are idiots - it's so 'dumbed down' that it's of very little information value - and there are plenty of factual inaccuracies that had me shouting at the screen.
If you already have even a basic understanding of the universe, watch this ONLY for the visuals, because you certainly won't learn anything from this series.
The best DVD series about SPACE so far June 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The information is up-to-date and interesting. The computer graphics are amazing. They makes me understanding the subject easier than reading the book. One computer graphic is indeed worth a thousand words and 2d pictures! I gave it only 4 stars because of the 2 reasons listed below.
1. No English subtitles/caption except on disk 1. This is bad because there are many scientific terms that I don't know. I can't search for them on the Internet because I can't spell them.
2. At least there is one location where the information is complete. I'm going to get more details about this and update it later.
Great, except it's letterboxed. June 22, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Fantastic series, but if you have an HDTV, like many of us do now, your in for a disappointment. This set is presented in a letterboxed format which means on an HDTV, there are going to be thick black bars framing the image, not just that the top and bottom of the screen, but all the way around. I don't know what the distributer is thinking, this should have been presented in a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio. I hope they correct this on season two.
Amazing! June 2, 2008 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
Anyone who is interested in the universe, space or astrology should definately buy this. Who would of thought that we are so small in this gigantic space we call the universe!
