Finally after all the wait... October 8, 2008 I can't believe I'm giving a season of the simpsons on dvd less than 5 stars...not because of the show and the episodes, they rule and they get a million stars (I even don't mind the Krusty plastic thing on the front it's cool)...please going forward don't do the cardboard packaging. I treasure my collection of the simpsons on dvd and they are all in pristine condition and this type of packaging ruins the discs. If it's about saving money I'd rather pay the extra $5 for plastic trays than this crappy scratch party. "Go get Lassie!! Lassie?? I mean Lisa."
Awful, awful, packaging. Awful. October 8, 2008 The exterior of this season set is very similar to previous seasons, but noticeably thinner. Earlier seasons had standard plastic trays for each disc, with a binding holding the trays together. The new set has a folded cardboard accordion thing. It's covered with some great art, and does help the set take up less space. The problem here is that the discs are nearly impossible to get out of the packaging. The pockets holding each disc are so tight that they don't slip out easily, and it's nearly impossible to get your fingers in there to remove the discs without tearing the pockets. I'm sure this packaging redesign was an attempt at being more eco-friendly, but it sucks.
Excellent show, HORRIBLE packaging October 8, 2008 First off, I'd like to say that I am a HUGE fan of this show. I've loved it ever since I was a little kid. But this set I just can't give a respectable score.
The packaging for this set is just insane. I always go for the limited edition packaging and expect it to be bigger and cooler than the original. Instead, what you get is the original packaging with a plastic Krusty face glued on the OUTSIDE of the plastic wraping for the main part of the set. I don't see the point of releasing a limited edition version if it's so easy to remove the ONLY part of the set that makes it limited edition.
I had to slit the plastic on the side where the dvds are and take off just enough plastic to pull out the tighly fitting accordion containing the dvds without compromising the Krusty face. Once I opened the accordion, I was shocked. At first I thought they somehow forgot to put the dvds in this particular package. Unfortunately, I was wrong. They have the discs crammed in these teeny tiny slits between the two pieces of cardboard that make up each section of the unfolded accordion. Attempting to get the discs out can very easily result in smudging the disc with your finger nails or scratching them against the rough cardboard.
Long story short, great show, great content, REALLY crappy packaging.
About the boxes... October 8, 2008 The limited edition box has a 3D krusty head glued to the front of the box the way the episode guide is glued to the back, otherwise they are the exact same box - crappy cardboard boxes that are sure to give your dvds plenty of scratches. The limited edition box also has a coupon to get to the front of the line on the Simpsons ride at Universal.
Great Show... weird packaging. October 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Simpsons are a classic. There is no disputing that, but I do have a problem with the packaging for the non Krusty head set. Does anyone else think it's difficult to get the DVDs out? Maybe it's just me?
