Description ZZ Top, the "little ol' band from Texas", has enjoyed enormous success on a global scale since their breakthrough in the early seventies and then their groundbreaking albums in the mid-eighties. Now for the first time one of ZZ Top's legendary live performances has been filmed for simultaneous release on DVD & Blu-ray. The track listing spans their career from early tracks such as "Waitin' For The Bus", "Just Got Paid" and the classic "La Grange", through their eighties blockbusters including "Gimme All Your Lovin'" and "Legs" (complete with furry guitars!) and up to more recent hits like "Pin Cushion". Filmed in their home state of Texas in front of a wildly enthusiastic audience, this DVD & Blu-ray captures ZZ Top at their very best. TRACK LISTING 1) Got Me Under Pressure 2) Waitin' For The Bus 3) Jesus Just Left Chicago 4) I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide 5) Pin Cushion 6) Cheap Sunglasses 7) Pearl Necklace 8) Heard It On The X 9) Just Got Paid 10) Rough Boy 11) Blue Jean Blues 12) Gimme All Your Lovin' 13) Sharp Dressed Man 14) Legs 15) Tube Snake Boogie 16) La Grange 17) Tush BONUS FEATURE Poker Game - Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill & Frank Beard talk through the history of ZZ Top over a game of poker. Went out of my way to rate and review this... August 21, 2008 This DVD absolutely rocks! I don't know what people are saying when they talk about the sound isn't up to par. Z.Z. Top is, at it's best, the best 3 piece blues band ever. As such, sonically, you are going to hear some "holes" in the sound now and then. I've played bass in 3 piece bands, it's very difficult to pull off and fill the entire audio spectrum. Z. Z. Top does it better than anybody. Dusty Hill's bass tone is the best I've ever heard him have on a recording, Frank Beard and Billy Gibbons as well. If you don't buy this, you are really missing out on a classic.
Just a Little Ol' Band From Texas.... August 18, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had only seen them live in a large stadium venue during the "Recycler" tour. This is a much more intimate setting, (still pretty big!), without a lot of the special effects and staging.
It is always amazing that three guys can put out such a big sound. ( I only suspect some "sweetening" for "She's Got Legs"- )
You should probably have this one in your collection.
ZZ top of the heap! August 18, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
ZZ top has always been well ON TOP! Billy, Dusty, and Frank show that if you like blues riffs and rock... Look no further. This DVD has a great mix of their latest and classic hits. Pass the chips and tacos its the beer drinkers and hell raisers!
Could have been much better August 18, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is not a reflection on ZZTop's performance. The video editing had the 30 different angles a minute mentalality that drives me crazy. I do have an attention span that lasts more than a few seconds. You could not get much of a look at the fretboard during a solo before it flipped to the audience or somewhere else again and again and again. Same with the drummer. The bass player? Forget it......The WORST part was the sound. Instead of getting the audio feed direct from the board for a DVD, you get what sounded like a hand held mike from the back row with all the echo intact. This made the singing and speaking an audio blur. Dusty could have taken the night off because his bass was inaudible. Why can't editors/directors and sound engineers figure this out themselves? This is supposed to be a professional DVD of a concert. We expect much better editing and sound.
That lil ole Video from Texas August 14, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Ive seen ZZ Top Live four times. The first time was when they were the first concert ever at the Summit In Houston Rocking the Fandango tour .Sporting short beards and Nudies suites.I think that was on Thanksgiving day mid seventies. That is still my favorite memory of the boys. The second time was back at the Summit Or maybe the Compac center at that time ,With Anntenae tour , with an elaborite Las Vegas style show. And I would love to see them play at the same venue again now that its Joel Olsteens church.Ha Ha . Well I reckon the boys are blessed so ... whatever. After all these decades Ive endured very harsh weather twice to rock with the boys outdoors here in Beaumont. The same town that they played there first paying gig together at the K.C.hall(Shout out to Al Caldwell). So to make a long review a little longer ....... The DVD lacked the magic of seeing the band when there fingers were to cold to play the show they tried to do.And all of the other shows I went too.If you are a true Z.Z.Top lover you have to have this dvd for your collection. It took too long before they released any thing like this. Now that Bill Hamm isnt over protecting the ZZ Top Image I hope Another live dvd will be released of the vintage concerts . now that would be more dynamic and entertaining..I hate to say This but I rate this live concert slightly under whelming , but I`m happy to have it.
