Product Description A baby named George is raised by gorillas and grows up to be a buff and lovable klutz with plenty of rain forest animal friends. Genre: Feature Film-Comedy Rating: PG Release Date: 2-MAR-2004 Media Type: DVD
Amazon.com Not even the executives at Disney could have predicted the runaway success of this live-action movie inspired by Jay Ward's goofy 1960s cartoon character. Not only did George make a killing at the box office, but Disney's marketing wizards turned it into one of their best-selling videos. It's hard to begrudge the movie's success, even if this is the kind of mindless entertainment that caters to the lowest common denominator. In any case, it's obvious that kids love this movie, in which the idiotic George (Brendan Fraser) repeatedly swings into trees and attracts the attention of a lovely jungle explorer (Leslie Mann) who decides to call off her engagement to a wealthy snob (Thomas Hayden Church) in favor of the vine-swinging hunk with an elephant named Shep (that thinks it's a dog) and an ape named Ape (with a proper Brit voice provided by John Cleese). Filled with slapstick gags and some funny special effects, the movie can be a bit of a trial for adults, but it's a hilarious treat for its intended audience. --Jeff Shannon

great comedy for all ages September 4, 2008 Good-natured, family-oriented comedy about a clumsy ape man who lives in the jungle amongst the animals and never seems able to stop crashing into trees. During a safari, he encounters a beautiful damsel in distress (Mann) and immediately falls in love with her. Despite their differences in lifestyles, he leaves his beloved jungle and travels to the big city where he tries to win her affections and adapt to civilization. It more ways than one this inherently goofy, episodic film resembles an extended television series with zany characters and a predictable setup, but it's smart, funny, and the gags are right on target. Fraser, never more likable, is perfectly cast, aided by a sly narrator and an over-the-top Cleese who really scores as the voice of ape.
By George this movie is fun! April 21, 2008 This movie is good, innocent fun for all ages. It has a silly bad guy, an even sillier good guy, and a monkey that talks. Very entertaining and family friendly.
George of the Jungle March 14, 2008 Love it! Came when it was supposed to, and was in good shape upon arrival.
George Of The Jungle February 9, 2008 I really enjoy the dvd, its wondeful, i would definetly recommend it to anyone who enjoys George Of The Jungle.
George of the Jungle critique January 7, 2008 This is an excellent family film. More so, for those of us who remember the original 1960s cartoon. One of the many ways that this film works is that it has humor for the kids and for the adults. The morality lessons are also important. The value of friendship and loyalty are the most important messages in the movie. All in all, a fun film all around.
