Product Description During his 40 years of medical practice and in his nationally syndicated column, Dr. Peter Gott has been asked constantly by patients and readers for a simple, foolproof way to lose weight. In response, he developed the No Flour, No Sugar Diet, which has prompted countless success stories from his patients, thousands of letters from his readers raving about their phenomenal weight loss, and his first New York Times bestselling book, Dr. Gott's No Flour, No Sugar Diet. And now, here are more than 175 new recipes promising rapid and effective weight loss.
It's uncomplicated and inexpensive. It allows you to forget calorie counting and gram counting. Cheating is allowed! In this book, Dr. Gott shows how easy it is to experience a variety of wonderful meals (including dessert!) while eliminating flour and added sugar from your diet. Say good-bye to bagels, cakes, and cookies-and enjoy lean meats, potatoes, rice, low-fat dairy products, vegetables, and fruits. The inexpensive and nutritious dishes make maintaining this diet a snap for everyone, with recipes such as:

And more.

Can I return this cookbook? July 24, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I wish the sugar free recipes weren't prepared with Splenda. I personally use agave nectar or stevia to bake my desserts. Stevia can be funky to bake with but it's possible with practice and agave nectar is simply magic. It's a low glycemic fructose from a mexican cactus and it can be used in coffee, in any beverages or smoothies, pies, muffins, etc... The other recipes look quite interesting but there's nothing exceptional here. Like the title of this message says: Can I return this book?

There are all kinds of diet books on the market. Whatever you want to try, there is a diet for it. Though I have not specifically tried the "No flour, No Sugar" diet by Dr. Gott, I have read the cookbook and found it extremely useful. A member of my family is gluten intolerant and, while not all of these recipes are gluten free (please note: some people who are gluten intolerant cannot eat oats, a main staple of Dr. Gott's), enough of them are that I am able to use them to extend what my family does eat.
The recipes are easy to follow, healthful and there are enough to keep you cooking for weeks. What is missing from this book are dietary specifics. I rarely buy a cookbook that doesn't include a breakdown of calories, fats, protein, etc. per serving. With this book, I will have to plug the recipe into a program I have and do all the calculations myself. I'd rather see some numbers in the book than have to do all this myself. Also, he is a huge promoter of "Splenda" - a product I and others in my family do not care for. Nor do we care for other artificial sweeteners. But he does give you enough alternatives such as Stevia (though there are caveats about this herb), and syrups made from fruits.
As with most cookbooks, you will find some recipes you love and some you will not. But take a chance and try them. What do you have to lose - besides the weight? All that being said, if you are a proponent of the No Flour, No Sugar diet, then this is a good companion to that book.

Dr. Gott's No Flour, No Sugar Cookbook June 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Very easy recipes using readily available ingredients. Wonderful resource for anyone trying to cut sugar from their diet.
Good advice and good recipes combined May 21, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I had never heard of Dr. Gott's no flour, no sugar diet when I first found this cookbook. I must admit that I was instantly skeptical when I saw the title....no flour and no sugar? Would it be possible to make edible food without these two supposedly essential ingredients? As I began to flip through the recipes, my skepticism started to wane. Breakfast Apple Pie? Sounds appealing. Faux Spaghetti? Intriguing. Mandarin Mousse? Fabulous!
I instantly headed toward the kitchen to try some of the recipes. My first endeavor was the eggs in nests. What a great snack and super easy to make! Further tries on the recipes were just as easy and just as tasty. I was won over in just a few recipes. This book gives you recipes that are easy to make, full of flavor, and plentiful enough that you can eat from this plan quite regularly, if not full time. My one complaint is that there are a ton of seafood-based recipes in the book. If you are not a fan of seafood, you will have some challenges with variety in this diet.
One of the best features of the book is that it goes beyond just the recipes. Dr. Gott's diet is encapsulated in a few introductory chapters and gives a good overview of why a sugar and flour free diet is beneficial. It also gives tips and tricks for surviving the world outside your kitchen, avoid the yo-yo diet pitfalls, and how border line foods such as alcohol and chocolate should be dealt with. It helps take all the great recipes and fit them into a healthy and well-rounded diet.
Chock full of easy-to-make recipes that taste great, this book will be great for anyone looking to enjoy a healthy diet and limit their flour and sugar intake.
