Product Description
Get ready for the read of your life. Never before has a single book combined awesome vans, unicorns, Billy Joel, and erotic fiction in such a potent combination. A writing tour de force? Perhaps. A reading experience that will sear itself into your consciousness like a red-hot branding iron? Without question.

Comedian and basic cable superstar Michael Ian Black unleashes the full fury of his astonishing intellect in this collection of short comic essays. My Custom Van is a no-holds-barred assault to the funny bone that will literally beat you into submission with hilarity*.

How did he do it? How did he create such a fine anthology? Answer: With love. Michael opened his heart and used the magical power of love to write more than fifty thought-provoking essays like, "Why I Used a Day-Glo Magic Marker to Color My Dick Yellow," and "An Open Letter to the Hair Stylist Who Somehow Convinced Me to Get a Perm When I Was in Sixth Grade."

Maybe you think love is not a substitute for "good writing skills" and "spell check." Bull pucky! When it comes to writing books, love is the most powerful word processor of all.

Sounds pretty great, right? And yet...something is still holding you back from paying the full purchase price of this book. What is it? Perhaps you secretly believe you do not deserve a book this good. Nonsense -- you deserve this book and so much more. In fact, if Michael could have written you all the stars in the sky, that's what he would have done. But he couldn't do that, due to his lack of knowledge in the area of astronomy. So he wrote this book instead.

And this flap copy.

Enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars Michael Ian Black is the funniest writer EVER.   September 6, 2008
This is seriously the funniest book that I've ever read. As suggested by one of his fellow comedianess' book review quotes, it's the perfect book to read on the pooper. Problem is...once you've finished the book, pooping seems to be missing that certain something. I only wish I could do one of those procedures like in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, so I could erase the memory retention of it so I could forever have it as a "pooper" book and have it be a new read every time! This is a great void that Michael Ian Black is filling...everyone needs great "pooper" reading material. It is the thread that unites us all. Thank you Mr. Black. Poop.

5 out of 5 stars A must-have for fans of The State, or people with ADD   September 6, 2008
This may well be my favorite book this year.

Anyone who is familiar with Michael Ian Black will be able to sense his dry, straight intonation in each essay, making them even more hilarious than taking them at face value. In fact, fans of The State may notice that some of the essays are almost certainly culled from ideas Michael had for the show.

This book isn't really a "page turner". You can pick it up, read three pages, and come back later to something completely different. Dare I say, perfect for the bathroom.

A few words of caution: if you're easily offended or don't appreciate non-sequitur, you might want to pass this book by. It also may not be something you want to read when you're looking for something quiet to do. I can't remember the last book I read that had me laughing out loud at almost every page.

5 out of 5 stars Michael Ian Black is a God Among Mere Mortals   September 6, 2008
This is the funniest collection of stories I have ever read! My funny bone actually broke and I'm still in traction. I'm typing this review with my toes because I believe Michael Ian Black is THE Master Comic Genius of this Millenium! (Also, because he promises to give away a new Chevy for praise.) But BUY THIS BOOK! GIVE IT AS GIFTS! There's Catcher in the Rye and this book. That's all you need to live your life.

I'm getting a cramp in my toes so I'll have to stop for now.

Best regards, Mikey,

Love,

Woman expecting her new Chevy

3 out of 5 stars Funny? Not Really. Sometimes. Maybe.   September 5, 2008
Since the majority of reviews seemed to enjoy this book, maybe it's just me. Personally, I found the humor to be...well, not so humorous. Quite frankly, I found it to be immature humor that I couldn't relate to; however, my sixteen year old son, on the other hand, found it to be hilarious (hence, the 3 stars given as I split the difference).

A couple of the stories gave me a slight chuckle, but most I simply rolled my eyes and kept reading.

I was glad when I was finished with this book. It is not one that I would enjoy reading again nor recommend to anyone over the age of 25.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome   September 5, 2008
Simply put, this is the funniest book I've ever read. I would suggest it to anyone who likes comedy, jokes, and/or laughing.
