Short on Real Ideas August 29, 2008 The millions to be made are with Infomercials and Home Shopping Network as the book elicits, which are out of reach of most entrepenuers, unless of course you "sell" your idea to Guthy Renker, Dan Kennedy or others for 2% of the profit. Not exactly a path to financial freedom. It is still a decent read to assist you in developing a direction on how to promote your product and discover your marketing avenue of choice. If you are looking for current product and service ideas to make your millions, this is not a book for you. He should do a 2008 version for todays entrepenuers. i.e. He wasn't sure when he wrote the book, if the Internet was a passing fad or not.
Outdated August 11, 2008 Unfortunately I was quite disappointed by this book as its suggestions center largely on outdated methods such as infomercial marketing and other brick-and-mortar concepts. There is very little information on utilizing eCommerce/the Web for making your mark. This is a shame as eCommerce is often a great way to get things started on your way to riches. If you are looking to learn about more traditional means of starting a business (read: offline), this book does have some good ideas but nothing you've not heard or read before if you have read any business or marketing books from the past ten years.
I'm surprised this book has received the number of endorsements and accolades it has and I wonder now if those were largely obtained by reciprocal deals with other authors rather than actual merit.
Dan Kennedy is one smart guy August 11, 2008 I've been following Dan for two years now and devour his stuff. This book is practical, bottom-line oriented, pure no B.S. through and through. I loved it!
Good but should be updated to this decade business models. May 4, 2008 Good book but focuses too much on direct marketing and the technology section should be updated.
Dan Kennedy's ideas still work May 1, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Some people may make the mistake that since Dan Kennedy wrote this book several years ago that the information is dated. Actually the principals are timeless.
6 months ago I created a direct mail campaign to raise money for the Purdue Women's Air Race Team. I followed his exact instructions on page 119 and raised more than enough money needed for the team. Not only did what he say still work, we had people writing in notes saying to leave their names on our mailing list because they loved getting the mail.
I have used Dan's advice for over 15 years. Of all the books he's written, this is my #1 favorite. It has been highlighted, dog-eared, and referred to time and time again.
