Book Description
The ultimate baseball road trip, this extraordinary journey to 50 stadiums, both past and present, brings to life the history and highlights of each in glorious photographs and the personal reminiscences of players, managers, sportswriters, and well-known spectators.

From Ebbets Field to Camden Yards, major league ballparks hold a special place in the hearts of millions of Americans. Blue Skies, Green Fields recreates the unforgettable experience of glimpsing the panorama of sky and manicured field for the first time, and it provides the stats baseball fans relish.

The 30 current stadiums and 20 parks of the past—including beloved favorites like Old Comiskey Park and Yankee Stadium, new parks like Safeco Field in Seattle and Cinergy Field in Cincinnati, and such misbegotten mistakes as the Minneapolis Metrodrome and Candlestick Park—are captured in full-color photographs of interiors and exteriors, authoritative stats, and a brief historical narrative. Contributing their personal memories of the ballparks are legends such as Reggie Jackson, Whitey Ford, Derek Jeter, Cal Ripken, Jr., and Mark McGuire; broadcasters from Harry Kalas to Bob Costas; Tommy Lasorda, Sparky Anderson, and other managers; and fans ranging from George Plimpton to Jesse Ventura.

5 out of 5 stars ...take me out to the ballgame!!! (please)   November 18, 2002

As a life-long baseball fan, I enjoy visiting ballparks around the country whenever I can. This book is wonderful! The pictures are fantastic and so are the interesting bits of trivia and information. I haven't yet bought my own copy of this book, but did buy it as a present for my father, who shares my love of baseball. The book is right next to his favorite chair where he can check it out while the ballgame is on. I enjoy thumbing through it trying to plan the next vacation where I can sneak in a game....If you are a baseball fan, or have one on your shopping list, this would be the perfect gift (short of World Series tickets for your home team).

3 out of 5 stars Nice Pictures , horrible text   November 4, 2002

Ira Rosen is a fine photographer. That being said it is amazing this book was published. There are countless errors, mainly chronological. He rarely got the right year of openings and closures of stadiums. Inexcusable. The quotes of players and other personalities don't make up for the errors however.

4 out of 5 stars Great but Bad   October 7, 2002

I think the book should have or at least Miller Park and P.N.C. Park. Witch would be good becuse,I'm a BIG Brewers fan.
But the book could have LESS on Fenway and Yankee stadium's.
Blue Skies and Green Fields is over all a GREAT book!!!

5 out of 5 stars A gorgeous celebration of baseball's temples   June 11, 2002

My dad and I are huge fans of books about baseball parks, their histories, dimensions, behind-the-scenes, etc. Rosen's Blue Skies, Green Fields is an absolutely stunning book that really gives an overview of the evolution of baseball parks, up to some of the newest stadiums in MLB.

It has gorgeous photography (many pics I've never seen) and although the text is minimal, it is meaningful. While I have yet to see the comprehensive, "end-all" of ballpark books, this is a great addition to any baseball fan's bookshelf.

3 out of 5 stars Stadiums left out   March 26, 2002

I am disappointed that Braves Field, Griffith Stadium, and RFK Stadium were left. I could care less about Jarry Park, Colt Stadium, LA Coliseum, and Seals Stadium.
