Product Description
In a world filled with panic and fear, a woman struggles to find her real self.

Fears Flutterby - tells the true story of a woman who has spent much of her life in a state of fear. It is an autobiographical study written with the caveat that though the author is telling her own story, names have been changed, and events have been compressed and, some, imaginatively recreated, so she could relate her own metamorphosis in an incisive way.

4 out of 5 stars Love overcomes fear...   August 3, 2008
This is a deeply moving portrayal of one woman's journey beyond the fears that plagued her thoughts to move into a caring, loving relationship with her best friend. She left all she had known of an abusive marriage to follow her heart. The committment of that journey took her to places she would rather not have gone, into the world of Alzheimers Disease and caring for her loved one..and ultimately the loved ones of others who became cast-aways when their minds died. It shows the indifference of a health care system that seems only to respond when the patient can! I was angry and saddened as I realized that this was not just a story, but a reality for far too many in our society. A great read.

A touching memoir of a very humane woman who searched for over twenty years to find reasons for her many fears and the true essence of her inner self.

Through the love of a dear friend and years of care giving to that friend, the author finally found her inner self and a strength she had never known. She refers to this care giving as a gift from God, and so is this book---a gift for any who reads it.

5 out of 5 stars A Fearless Story   July 24, 2006
This heart-gripping story will capture your attention from beginning to end. Her fifteen years as a caregiver for her dear friend who suffered from Alzheimer's is a story you will want to pass along to your friends.

If you have ever loved someone with all of your heart and soul, then had to become that persons caregiver, this book is for you.
Sometimes when we feel that we are drowning with all that life throws at us, we find our finest selves. Just as the clay pot is fired into a thing of beauty, our lives can be transformed by the things that we fear the most. In this book, that is just what happens. An ordinary person faces the challenges set before her and emerges as a strong and beautiful spirit.

Writing this book was a quest of mine for many years, but I thought anyone who attempted to write a book needed a college degree. When I started writing in the latter years of my life, I found a person could write in their inner voice. On the pages this cover binds, I wrote what was deep within my heart and soul. Some may read it and say, "she should have gone to college," but I think all of us have a story hidden deep inside ourselves and you don't need a college education to write it - just do it. Below is an excerpt from Fears Flutterby.

In a world filled with panic and fear, a woman struggles to find her real self.
Fears Flutterby tells the true story of a woman who has spent much of her life in a state of fear. It is an autobiographical study written with the caveat that though the author is telling her story, names have been changed, and events have been compressed and, some, imaginatively recreated, so she could relate her own metamorphosis in an incisive way.

"She struggled writing the book, not knowing who the real person was. Was she the child of her mother and father or the wife to her ex-husband? Was she the mother of her two children, or the person full of fear that she knew so well? Was she the caregiver to her friend? Was she the unforgiving person or the loving person, the child of God? Who was the real person? Or was she all the above?"

Joanna Lamatt is trapped inside a circle of panic and fear, which have colored her daily thoughts to the point where she is living a neurotic existence. As her twenty-six year marriage is falling apart, she meets Catherine, a woman whose tenderness and caring have a profound impact on her life. As the friendship blossoms, Joanna undergoes a process of self-discovery and slowly emerges like a butterfly from a cocoon. When Catherine is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, Joanna must find a way to let go of the one person she has relied on for support to face life on her own.

rmLamatt spent fifteen years as a caregiver for her dear friend who suffered from Alzheimer's. This led her to volunteer as a facilitator for an Alzheimer's support group. She helped open the first adult day-care center in her town and then worked as an activity director for an assisted living facility. As a testament to God's influence in her life and the healing powers of love, Lamatt penned Fears Flutterby.
