Good idea, but not in my store February 8, 2008 The Shopper's guide seems to be a pretty comprehensive list of glycemic values, the problem is that almost none of the products listed are ones sold in my local grocery stores. I am wondering if the list is of Canadian brands since that is where the glycemic index diet first took hold. I plan to try to look for another similar book with brands that are available here.
Great shoppers guide January 18, 2008 A handy book to take shopping with you - very informative and helpful. Wish I had had this book sooner.
not worth the money December 26, 2007 Although this is a very inexpensive book, it is of little value unless you know absolutly nothing about GI values. If you are a true novice in this area, buy the book.
G I Values thoughts December 18, 2007 I think I need more of an explanation of the basis for Glycemic Values than this book gives. The products mentioned are mostly Australian brand names, I think, so it's not as much help as I pictured.
The New Glucose Revolution - Shapper's GI Values December 4, 2007 This is a good, usable, guide. The first half of the book is devoted to teaching what the GI is, how to eat by it and common sense advice on how to live with it. The last half is a well arranged guide to GI values. One caution: Continue to read lables. Case in point: Rye bread, seeded is shown to have a GI of 51. True of the loaf they tested but I found Rye bread in the stores whose primary ingredient was good ol' enriched wheat flour and, in one case, less rye flour than caraway seeds! (I base this on order in which ingredients are listed). This book missed getting four stars from me because I'm unfamiliar with many of the Brand Names shown - I live in the US not Australia. Overall - Good Book. I recommend it highly.
