Product Description
Joseph F. Healey’s Race, Ethnicity, Gender, and Class, Fifth Edition builds upon the bestselling status of the four prior editions, praised for the author’s writing style and the various effective pedagogical features that ensure students engage with core concepts in a meaningful way. With many updates and revisions, this edition once again uses sociological theory to tell the story of race and other socially constructed inequalities in the United States with consistency and clarity. Chapter-ending current debates based on the writings of prominent scholars spark classroom discussion on important issues, and first-person accounts, “Narrative Portraits,” are threaded throughout the text to bring life to a variety of topics. New to the Fifth Edition - Offers briefer and more accessible format without sacrificing rigor
- Combines Chapters 3 and 4 to better illustrate the relationship between the individual level and societal level factors that create racial, ethnic, and gender prejudice and conflict
- Incorporates Chapter 13 on global and comparative dynamics into the rest of the book for more integrated global coverage in every chapter
- Presents a new four-color design throughout the text to make it more appealing and dynamic
- Provides new maps of the world and more global examples throughout the text and in Comparative Focus boxes
- Includes new data and a case study on the racial and ethnic consequences of Hurricane Katrina
- Contains more information on New Immigrants including Arab Americans, Caribbean Americans, and other groups that have become part of the social fabric of the United States in recent years
Accompanied by High Quality Ancillaries! - Instructors’ Resources on CD-ROM include updated chapter overviews, classroom activities, and suggestions for discussion; new and updated test questions including multiple choice questions, true/false questions, and essay questions; PowerPoint slides consisting of lecture outlines, exhibits, and examples; and exhibits. Qualified instructors can receive a copy of the IRCD by contacting SAGE Customer Care at 1-800-818-SAGE (7243), 6 am - 5 pm, PST.

Book Store Review October 12, 2008 Dear Friends,
I was not quite as happy with my second book purchase from this particular dealer. The dealer had indicated on the Amazon.com website that the book was in good condition with little marks. The book was in good condition but there were way more highlighted areas and written messages in the margin then just "little marks". We always take a chance when we buy something online but I would be cautious of what this particular dealer thinks is little marking. However on a happy note my book did arrive promptly and they did return my email rather quickly as well. So I'm not saying not to buy from them just make sure you understand what you are getting so you will not be disappointed like I was when I got my textbook.
Typical Sociology January 9, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The book is not dense reading. Typical Sociology-oriented stuff about discrimination and whatnot. Not worth reading unless you need it for class. A decent textbook, though, if you need one.

This is a great vendor, I need the book right away and send the vendor a note and I got a response back right away. The vendor even kept me up do date on when the book was going to be shipped, this is a well trusted vendor...
