Product Description Its not about changing your swingits about changing your mind: Two legendary coaches give golfers a powerful new approach to the game... and to life. As coaches to some of golfs top players, Pia Nilsson and Lynn Marriott have designed and refined a revolutionary way of teaching the game, with phenomenal results. They dont believe in prescribing the same stance, grip, and swing to everyone, followed by hours of purposeless drilling. They dont even believe in beginning with physical technique. Their success has proven to them that a great game begins with a great vision. Unlike any other golf book, Every Shot Must Have a Purpose offers cutting-edge techniques for integrating the physical, technical, mental, emotional, and social parts of a players game. The books revolutionary pre-shot routine will improve your focus, leading to a golf swing that is not only successful but can be repeated under extreme pressure. Emphasizing the individual golfer rather than a rigid set of mechanics, their VISION54 method takes the frustration out of the game. Why 54? Because they believe its possible to shoot a 54 (making a birdie on every hole of a par-72 course) if you have the right mind-set and well-honed intuitive power. An engaging read for the beginner or the seasoned golfer, Every Shot Must Have a Purpose is inspiration for life, not just the links.
I have been impressed by Pia ever since I saw her in action in the late 1980s, first as a player and then as my coach. Pia is open-minded and intelligent and possesses the desire to constantly help others develop... I have been inspired to follow her beliefs and life philosophy. Annika Sorenstam, LPGA

Great golf book July 12, 2008 Great book for helping players focus on their game one shot at a time. The approach is great and should help players at any level. I highly recommend it.
Every Shot must have a purpose June 14, 2008 I have played golf 40 years and am a 2 handicap. I found I learned a lot about how to improve my game reading this book, which after reading golf books, is rare. The ideas are clearly expressed and very helpful. Everyone who wants to enjoy golf more should read this book, and you will likely play better too.
Awful lot of bloat for very little substance June 11, 2008 When the puffery for a book is loaded with buzz terms like "REVOLUTIONARY WAY" and "GREAT VISION" and "CUTTING EDGE TECHNIQUES" and "WELL-HONED INTUITIVE POWER", that's not a good sign. Yes, Pia Nilsson has been Annika Sorenstam's coach, but being a successful coach of a top-level player doesn't necessarily equate to being able to write 192 pages of useful information, and this little book proves it.
That said, there are some very useful observations such as differentiating between those factors over which one has control and those that are out of one's control; all too often we see golfers livid over examples of the latter (e.g., pin positions, course conditions, tee times, how others are playing, etc.).
What is one to learn from the following: "Nick Faldo prepared himself so that his talent was at its best when it meant the most. He knew how to get the ball in the hole."? Shortly thereafter we are informed that "...the genius of Nicklaus was his ability to get the ball in the hole before everyone else. This is what the game is all about." Funny, most of us think that the game is about getting around the course in the fewest strokes, and certainly those in the final pairing won't be able to "get the ball in the hole before everyone else."
On page 140 we are informed that the "SWING KEY" is to "Embrace your fears and drown them in kindness". Go tell THAT to John Daly!
Nilsson spends a fair amount of time bashing Phil Mickelson, concluding that "[His] mistake...was in not separating the physical approach that was best suited for his personality from the mental approach that would function best under pressure." She fails to explain, but rambles on about how Faldo, Palmer, and Hogan "...played within themselves".
RECOMMENDATION: There are a few useful ideas in this book, but they are buried in page after page of drivel. Read this book at a library, and then buy it if you believe it will help you.
Avid Golfer June 2, 2008 The best golf book I have ever read! The book is alot about fine tuning. Awsome.
taking strokes off your handicap... May 26, 2008 After applying these concepts to my game I took 4 strokes off my handicap by the end of the season! This is not an instruction manual but a great "head game" book for anyone! A must read for all golfers!
